Marco, Antonio, Barrera, -, In, the, Eye, of, the, Beholder

By Patrick Kehoe

Marco Antonio Barrera has been taking Manchester England by stealth. The Mexican legend has been looking interviewer after interviewer in the eye over the last week patiently, and in his measured English, stating what he feels is the obvious case. He’s going to beat Amir Khan, the Bolton lightweight wonder kid of British boxing, just as he’s beaten a virtual who’s who of three generations of world class boxers, over his 20 year boxing career. “This is nothing new for me,” Barrera assures with iced brown eyes that don’t seem to blink, concentrated alertness his natural state of being.

Of course, Marco Antonio Barrera, now thirty-five years old, points to his experience as his main advantage over his rising star of an opponent, England’s twenty-two year-old fast hitting Olympic idol turned ambitious pro prospect on the cusp, Kahn. read more

By Leo Reyes

An avid boxing fan said that Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao can help revive the sagging Las Vegas economy by staging boxing fights everyday along the Strip and offered more that 500 Filipino professional boxers along with Mexican and other known boxers.
Las Vegas is experiencing serious economic crises in its history. Local authorities are desperately looking for ways and means to keep the economy going and maintain its standing as the entertainment city of the world.

This is Pacquiao Nation, Deal with it!

By Gerry Balasta

I want to see more PAC POWER, but I am assuming that the Pacific Storm has only 2-3 fights left after the Hatton fight. If it were up to me, and for selfish reasons, I would love to see him go head to head and clean up the junior welter and welterweight division, which will take about 6-7 more fights. But given all the risks involved in entering the boxing arena, I support the man if he retires at his prime. That is if his heart is in public service and politics.

The boxing world would be so different without the Pacman, he will be surely missed; The excitement of a Pacquiao fight, the rivalries he created with the greatest fighters of this era, and the people of 90 million he brings with him in his boxing matches. read more

There’s a Reason Ricky "The Hitman" Hatton Hasn’t Lost in 44 Fights at 140 Lbs.

by stoker dafire

There exists an historic Mecca in the north of England that has been home to many great sporting achievements.

Most of those great victories are from the country’s premier football team, Manchester United.

The great MEN Arena in Manchester has also been a proud host to the single greatest triumph in British Boxing history.

On a beautiful spring day in June of 2005, a young, 26-year-old English fighter named Ricky “The Hitman” Hatton demonstrated to the world his boxing excellence. read more

Requiem for a Hitman!

By P.H. Burbridge

Redemption time for Ricky “The Hitman” Hatton. When he first hit the scene I wondered why he chose a nickname that was already made famous by Thomas “The Hitman” Hearns. But, over the years I’ve forgiven him for that because if anyone deserves to be called the Hitman its Hatton. He’s earned it.

As he rose through the ranks and his name entered the discussion in the U.S. there were plenty of detractors who labeled him a protected British fighter who built his name on soft opposition. But, not me. I immediately enjoyed his style and to a certain extent considered Ricky to be fighting in what is sometimes called “the Mexican style.”

Swarming your opponent and cranking left hooks to the body. Basically, wearing your man down. It’s the hardest style to be successful with. Obviously, it’s not exclusive to Mexican fighters. The Great Joe Frazier was a master of this style but in recent times people have began to make the correlation between that style and Mexican fighters. Julio Cesar Chavez has a lot to do with it. So, I wasn’t surprised when Hatton also picked up another nickname “The Manchester Mexican.” read more
