Pacquiao’s southpaw stance to frustrate Hatton

abs-cbnnews.com

Just like what happened in the Oscar de la Hoya fight, Manny Pacquiao’s southpaw stance could be his key edge against UK’s toughie Ricky Hatton.

In a recent article written by Gary Todd of BaraggingRightsCorner.com, one of the weaknesses he pointed out about Hatton is his difficulty in handling left-handed fighters.

Todd said the reigning International Boxing Organization (IBO) light welterweight champ had problems against former champions Juan Urango, Eamonn Magee, and Luis Collazo. All of them are left handed. read more

PACQUIAO DOWNS SPARRING PARTNER IN 1ST DAY OF SPARRING

By Ed de la Vega, DDS

Los Angeles, California — DARN, IT’S ONLY THR FIRST DAY!

At the rate things have started at the Wildcard Gym, Freddie Roach, the famed guru at the gym may have a hard time finding more sparring partners for Manny Pacquiao.

And what happened today, the very first day of sparring, may serve as a warning to Ricky Hatton and his loudmouth trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr.

The message to them is: Quit talking and start training, because Pacquiao is on a war path. read more

Roach Taunts Hatton, Predicts Pacquiao Knockout in Three

By Ronnie Nathanielsz

Celebrated trainer Freddie Roach is playing the numbers game regarding who will knockout who in the showdown between Roach’s prized possession Manny Pacquiao and Britain’s Ricky “The Hitman” Hatton in Las Vegas on May 2.

Roach who arrived in Los Angeles on Sunday night from London where he steered promising lightweight Amir Khan to a bloody fifth round technical decision win over ageing Mexican legend Marco Antonio Barrera was obviously peeved over Hatton’s claim he would knock Pacquiao out in six rounds.

After answering with an expletive, Roach said “we’re going to knock him out in three.” read more

Pacquiao to face an ‘aggressive, defensive, technical’ Hatton

GMANews.TV

Normally you wouldn’t associate Ricky “Hitman” Hatton with all three adjectives, the Mancunian known more for being a slugger than a boxer.

But the 30-year-old fighter claimed he would display all these traits on May 2 when he defends his International Boxing Organization and Ring Magazine world junior welterweight title against pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao.

“I think people are used to me, that sight of Ricky Hatton, which they still get. And I’m aggressive but I’m also technical as well. You’ve seen the boxing side of Ricky Hatton now, and that’s going to stand me in good stead. I’m being aggressive and defensive and technical at the same time now,” Hatton was quoted by the Sporting Life. read more

Hatton? No big deal – Pacman

By Abac Cordero

MANILA, Philippines – Manny Pacquiao has faced bigger opponents before, someone as big, as tall as Oscar dela Hoya, that’s why he said he’d have no problem against Ricky Hatton.

“Hatton is bigger than I am but this isn’t about big,” said Pacquiao, at 5’6” 1/2 just an inch shorter than Hatton, only bigger in the sense that he’s a natural light-welterweight.

Hatton said recently he’d make sure he’s the bigger fighter in the ring when the two superstars lock horns at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on May 2. read more

Floyd Mayweather Plans Announcement, to Fight Pacquiao-Hatton Winner?

by Michael David Smith

When Floyd Mayweather Jr. walked away from boxing last year, retiring undefeated at the age of 31, everyone assumed it would just be a matter of time before he announced he was returning.

So far, that announcement hasn’t come. Pacquiao in six, says coach

By Nick Giongco

IF boxing fans were mesmerized by Manny Pacquiao’s brutal win over Oscar De La Hoya at welterweight, they will be in for a super treat once the Filipino ring icon gets his hands on Ricky Hatton at junior-welterweight.

That’s the belief of Pacquiao’s conditioning coach Alex Ariza, who told the Bulletin yesterday from Los Angeles that at 140 lbs (also known as super-lightweight and light-welterweight), “Manny will be absolutely lethal.”

“This is the fight that will wow everybody,” said Ariza, who has been tapped again by chief trainer Freddie Roach to help in the conditioning aspect of Pacquiao’s preparation for the May 2 showdown at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. read more
