Nate Campbell’s failure to make the 135-pound weight limit for his lightweight title match with Ali Funeka and his subsequent victory over the talented South African on Saturday caused major repercussions within THE RING’s divisional ratings.

Campbell, who came in three pounds over the lightweight limit last Friday, announced before and after his hard-fought majority decision over Funeka that he would campaign in the 140-pound division immediately after the fight. read more

The feel-good story of Nate Campbell’s unlikely rise to the top of the lightweight division ended on the scales Friday afternoon.

Campbell, a former street tough who used boxing to bring order to his wayward life, became the sport’s latest Cinderella story when he upset highly favored Juan Diaz last March to win three world lightweight titles.

However, the 36-year-old veteran never defended those belts, vacating one of them prior to Saturday’s mandatory defense against Ali Funeka and then losing the other two at the weigh-in when he failed to make the 135-pound lightweight limit. read more

WBO/IBF lightweight champion Nate Campbell has weighed in at 138 lbs. for Saturday’s bout against Ali Funeka. Campbell has two hours to lose 3 lbs. Funeka weighed 133.5. Ironically, Campbell’s previous fight with Joan Guzman was cancelled when Guzman didn’t make weight. read more
